This looks, surprisingly, not terrible.

I played the hell out of this on the day of, and day after, purchase. Subsequently, I actually forgot I owned it. I think that says about everything about it that is necessary from a review perspective. It plays fine, and scratched the itch for a bit, but just didn't hold my interest due to the profound limitations on available build space and over-reliance on multiplayer to get a full region building experience.

Steam sales strike again. This is now on the long backlog of games I own and need to get around to playing.

Playing through this again. Just as good as the first time, and all the subtle hints about the conclusion that are peppered throughout the story are fascinating. There's a ton more meaning in just about everything, if you play it again.

Been thinking about doing that myself. There were more than a bunch of subliminal things I never noted when playing through it the first time around.

Oh, eastern-bloc games, you're so weird. Absolutely phenomenal atmosphere and immersion, but some design decisions defy common sense. For example, there's one level that requires you to carry a small child on your back, resulting in your aim becoming sluggish and swimmy. Realistic? Maybe. Fun or sensible? Not really, when you've got dozens of creatures trying to kill you at any given moment. There are all kinds of touches like that throughout the game, some of which are endearing, and others that made me want to stop playing immediately. Overall a worthwhile experience, though. It still looks terrific, as well.

Oh, dear, this looks exceedingly dumb. Fittingly makes for a hilarious Giant Bomb quick look. I'm guessing I'll pick this up on the inevitable 75% sale by the end of the year. http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-mars-war-logs/2300-7335/

The "Skyrim with guns" analogy isn't really accurate, but I understand why people would use it. I had a fantastic time with this, but the story is pretty damn dumb (and not in a good way). The gameplay and gorgeous visuals make up for it, though.

Dipping back in after too many distractions with other games. I had forgotten how well this plays.
