I have been a gamer since I was 5 and first saw Super Mario Bros. Now aged 31, a father, a manager, yet still a Super Mario Bros fan

When I was 15 I racked up 125+ hours on each cartridge, plus about 80 on yellow. The start of a long term love/hate relationship with the franchise, even now I cannot fault these games as they are so well made.
The graphics make the absolute best of what the Game Boy had to offer, simplistic yet detailed enough that nothing is confusing (many game boy games suffered from too many objects looking the same). The music is up there with Links Awakening and Super Mario Land in the chiptune loveliness stakes.

Sparse in parts, and the remakes improved things (as well as allowing Pokes to be used and bumped up all the way to X/Y if you had the hardware) but there will always be a fondness within me for these games.

Once you get past the minimalist control system this is a joy to play. Requires a lot more skill and timing than most other skating games, and has a great online leaderboard

Perfect? Almost
After years of ranting in forums that a 3D Pokemon game would not work, Game Freak have proved me utterly wrong.
It's Pokemon, you can move diagonally, everything flows perfectly and the levelling up system has had yet another improvement to add to the one from BW.

There is nothing greater than random swap- at the start of the game I randomed so many low powered pokes I had filled my Dex to over 100 when I'd usually be on 4. The online is a vast improvement on prior Generations and people are by and large having fun and not taking it too seriously.

Half a star lost for having so minimal a difference between versions

Another Nintendo franchise designed to sap your life away!
This is a lovely, charming game. Full of quirky nods to other games and entertaining characters. The use of streetpass and wireless connectivity is done very well, and many an hour was spent jealously coveting the villages of friends and relatives.

I find though, that you need at least 1 hour a day to devote to AC. If you have limited time for gaming and have a list of games as long as your arm to play, one of your 24 hours each day being devoted to maintaining a fictional village seems a bit much.

Lovely while you have the time, but sadly my village has now joined all those Nintendogs in silicon heaven
